Yes, We Have No Bananas

President Wamalya of Misikhu gave us this bunch of bananas
from his shamba.  There must have been 70 or more.  We were
eating at least 2 a day each.  We gave the elders bunches when
they came for DDM.  I made banana bread and froze some.
I even made a banana cream pie (w/o cream)

They were ripening so fast we had a hard time keeping up,
but we managed to use them all.

The bottom picture show what was left.

Circumcision, RS Sisters, and Ibis Birds

The two boys holding the pom poms are going through a circumcision
ritual where they parade through streets dancing, chanting, and collecting
money and gifts in preparation of their upcoming circumcision within a
day or two afterward.  They are usually around 12 to 14 years old.  Two
of the RS women we were visiting joined in their dances and chanting.
One was our RS president and the other in 70.  It was quite amusing.

The bottom picture shows 2 ibis birds which have long curved beaks
and make a terrible squawking sound.

Monkey Business

These are the first monkeys we have seen since being here for 7 months.
The first time there were 10 or more on our compound.  Since then we have
seen others on the streets and in our backyard and on top of our house.  We
have been warned not to feed them as they can become a nuisance.

Kerio Valley, Equator, and Tire Trouble

Coming back from Nairobi, we drove through Kerio Valley,
and stopped at the equator.  This tortoise along the road
was one of the few travelers we saw.

Two days later we encountered this misfortune.
Fortunately it was flat on only one side.

We had plenty of roadside advice and a little help.
A hammer, bike tire pump, and hacksaw was all we needed.

Thanksgiving in Nairobi

We enjoyed Thanksgiving in Nairobi at President and Sister Broadbent's home.
All of the senior couples were there.  The following day we met for a couples'
conference and shared ideas and experiences.
